FREE REPORT: The Achilles Heel of the Trace Industry - Mis-Trace
Over the past 18 months Focus Software Systems have been undertaking extensive research into the trace industry in partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University Business School.
As the economic environment continues to be difficult it is critical to know your industry inside out in order to quickly respond to change. With this in mind Focus, developers of tracehunter v6, are please to offer the third in a series of industry reports that have been produced from the research.

Accuracy and Record Keeping
Inaccurate data can easily cause
significant distress to those who are subject of mis-trace and wrongly accused
of owing monies. It is therefore imperative to ensure that the necessary
safeguards are in place both to check the accuracy of information when it is
obtained, and to correct it when inaccuracies are found.
The DPA says that the word “inaccurate”
means “incorrect or misleading as to any matter of fact.” Potentially this
might create problems for trace agents who frequently have to rely upon
information, which they have obtained from third parties or indeed from data
subjects who may not always tell the truth. However, the Act also provides that
where information has been obtained from third parties or from data subjects
themselves there will be no breach of the DPA if:
· -
The
information received has been accurately recorded
· - The data controller
has taken reasonable steps to ensure the accuracy of the information
· - Any challenge
by the data subject to the accuracy of the information is apparent on the face
of the record
The duty to safeguard the quality
of personal data obviously applies to clients as well as to their tracing
agents. Clients and their tracing agents need to communicate with each other in
order to ensure that they each keep the information they hold up to date.
Problems may arise if this does not happen.
If a subject satisfies a tracing
agent that he or she is not the target, the tracing agent should amend its
records promptly, so that the individual is not contacted again. This
information must be passed to the client and any other relevant parties such as
a credit reference agency in order for them to update their own records to
ensure further erroneous contact is not made by either the client or another
agent they may instruct. If you have any questions about how the DPA effects
your trace function why not call us now on 0161 713 2213 and we’ll happily answer
any questions you may have.

2013 a Tough Year Ahead for Debt Collection?
After a hard year in 2012 many
predict an even tougher year ahead. With increasing pressure on personal
incomes, people are having to economise further in order to get by, with a
significant minority seeing debts as a none priority item. This has led to an
increase pressure on collection rates. This is set to continue with inflation
running at 2.7% and wages remaining stagnant across many industries.
This said a recent Plimsoll
report has shown that in some areas of the collections market there is still significant
growth. A small number of collection firms have added 25% to the size of their
business over the past year. It would seem they have done this through being
innovative in their approach to collections and trace, through adopting cutting
edge collection strategies and investing in technologies to help improve their
market knowledge and insight.

5 Reasons to Look at tracehunter v6
1 – Your Costs of Trace have Begun to Increase and Cost Savings are Hard
to See – tracehunter automatically collects and generates detailed cost
reports. Comprehensive records of spend per client, batch and individual case
activities are recorded making it much simpler to control trace costs and see
exactly what the ROI is from data sources. As well as this it is straightforward
to identify bottle necks within your business meaning cost savings are easier
to see.
2 – Trace is Currently Requiring a Large Amount of Mundane Human Input
– tracehunter has developed enhanced trace workflows. Trace Agents can now
conduct all their trace enquiries through a single flow of screens within
tracehunter. Allowing access to the required data sources for a case at the
click of a button and automatically filling search detail fields. As well as this many once time consuming
mundane tasks, such as data entry, have been automated.
3 – Trace isn’t Proving Cost Effective – Costing and Productivity
Reports generated by tracehunter v6 allow you to see what is and isn’t proving
cost effective within your trace operation. Also users of tracehunter v6 are
twice as productive as none users meaning through improved efficiency comes
improved effectiveness.
4 – Currently There is a Manual Involvement with MI Generation – Improved
Data Analytics means data is now collected on every aspect of the trace process
automatically allowing for simple analysis and report generation, which can be
set up around your requirements to allow for bespoke business information.
5 – You Find it Hard to Truly Maximise the ROI of the Data Sources you Subscribe
to – Data sources are manageable and accessible on a batch or client basis.
Meaning trace agents can only access the data sources that are required by a
client or batch of cases. This allows for greater cost and process control. With
every access and outcome recorded the MI reports that tracehunter generates can
show you how much each trace and each success is costing you with each of the
data sources that you are using.

Risk & Compliance will Propel Trace Technology Spending in 2013
The continued weak global economy
and increased regulations have led to a growing need within the trace industry
to use software packages and platforms that allow companies to increase efficiencies
and stay ahead of the game.
Compliance and regulatory
requirements in particular have increased the need for investment in IT, with the
need for analytics and MI forever growing in importance. Managers who have
access to the best information are able to perform at a higher level and are
able to generate the greatest return on investment.
Also investment in technology can
help to drive business costs down. Through enhanced automation and improved analytics
clients can be given up-to-date information on how their cases are progressing.
“2013 will bring with it many
challenges to the collections and trace environment”.
Tracehunter will be hosting the
second in a series of free workshops looking at Trace and Technology on the of 6th
December 2012. Held at the Regus Offices on West George Street in Glasgow, the
event provides a platform for discussion around regulatory reform and how
technology can transform how the trace industry works. To book your free place
